Using Synamedia Technology, a Scandinavian Operator Reduces Cloud Time-Shift and DVR Expenses

Telia Norway, a Scandinavian communications company and mobile network operator, is implementing new optimization technology from Synamedia to reduce the cost of using the cloud for its Time-Shift TV (TSTV) and cloud-based digital recorder cDVR by up to 95%. Synamedia announced this development today.

The technology, developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), is designed to revolutionize the way video is transferred to and from the cloud, resulting in significant cost savings for TSTV and cDVR services. Telia has already launched Synamedia’s cDVR recording solution in the third quarter of 2023, using a hybrid cloud model that utilizes AWS for certain recordings. In addition, the company has implemented Synamedia’s TSTV services for over 200 channels in September 2023, employing a mix of on-premises and cloud services for controlling live content such as restart and catch-up.

Stein Ivar Nilsen, Telia’s video acquisition and distribution manager, praised the partnership between Synamedia and AWS, calling it a powerful combination. He expressed his satisfaction with the new optimization technologies, stating that they exceeded expectations and positioned Telia as a leader in the TV industry.
