Steelers Sign Blake Martinez from Panthers’ Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made two significant signings this week, with the addition of Myles Jack to their practice squad and Blake Martinez set to join them on Tuesday. This move comes as the Steelers continue to bolster their roster.

On Monday, the team announced that they had signed linebacker Myles Jack to their practice squad. This signing demonstrates the Steelers’ commitment to strengthening their linebacker corps with experienced players.

Now, it has been reported that Blake Martinez will be joining the Steelers on Tuesday. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Martinez is being signed off the Panthers’ practice squad.

Before his brief retirement from football in November 2022, Martinez played for the Raiders and Giants. He appeared in four games with the Raiders in 2022 and three games for the Giants in 2021 before tearing his ACL. However, he retired while playing for the Raiders due to a profitable Pokemon trading card business but returned to football after being banned from selling cards on a major online marketplace.

Over his previous five seasons, Martinez played in 77 games for the Packers and Giants and accumulated an impressive 706 tackles, 13 sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries throughout his career. These signings demonstrate that the Steelers are committed to building a strong linebacker corps with experienced players who can contribute immediately on defense.

In summary, these signings show that the Pittsburgh Steelers are dedicated to improving their linebacker corps by bringing in experienced players like Myles Jack and Blake Martinez. They have proven themselves valuable additions to any roster and will help solidify the Steelers’ defense as they continue through training camp towards regular-season play.
