St. Louis secures 2-2 draw against Austin

Célio Pompeu scored a crucial goal in the third minute of stoppage time in the second half, helping St. Louis City secure a 2-2 draw against Austin FC on Sunday night. This was Pompeu’s second goal in three matches for St. Louis City this season, showing an improvement from his previous season’s performance where he only scored once in 26 appearances. Tomas Totland provided the assist for Pompeu’s game-tying goal.

Austin FC took the lead in the 14th minute when Matt Hedges capitalized on a crossing pass from Zan Kolmanic. This goal held until halftime, giving Austin the advantage. However, St. Louis City fought back in the second half, with Eduard Löwen scoring on a penalty kick in the 49th minute after a foul by Austin’s Alexander Ring on Aziel Jackson.

Despite St. Louis City’s equalizer, Austin managed to regain the lead in the 51st minute with a header by Julio Cascante, assisted by Ring. Brad Stuver made five saves for Austin, while Roman Bürki did not have to make any saves for St. Louis City.

Last season, St. Louis City had defeated Austin twice, showcasing their improvement in this latest meeting. St. Louis City will now travel to play against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, while Austin FC will host the Philadelphia Union on the same day.
