SPHS Science Olympiad Team Qualifies for State Competition

South Pasadena High School Science Olympiad Teams Selected to Compete in State Competition.

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, members of the SPHS Science Olympiad teams competed at Rio Hondo College in Los Angeles. Out of the 61 teams that participated in the Los Angeles-Rio Hondo College Regional Science Olympiad Tournament, SPHS placed 5th and 9th. This qualification means that SPHS will advance to the State Competition on April 6, 2024 at Caltech for the second consecutive year.

The Science Olympiad students at SPHS have dedicated their time after school and on weekends throughout the year to prepare and practice for these events. The organization, Science Olympiad, is an international nonprofit that aims to improve science education and spark student interest in science while recognizing outstanding achievements in science education by students and teachers. Congratulations are in order for the following students and their advisor, Science teacher Ben Ku.

The achievements of the SPHS Science Olympiad teams were commendable with students placing in various events such as Air Trajectory, Anatomy and Physiology, Astronomy, Codebusters, Detector Building, Ecology, Experimental Design, Flight, Forensics, Forestry, Fossils
