Shocking Changes in Men’s Basketball: Purdue and Connecticut Maintain Top Spot while Houston Climbs to Third Place

Connecticut and Purdue shake up college basketball poll rankings

The USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll has seen some significant changes in men’s basketball in the past week. Purdue and Connecticut remain at the top of the rankings, with Connecticut retaining their position as defending champions. Both teams have continued to dominate with impressive performances, earning them numerous No. 1 votes.

Houston has made a remarkable climb back to third place, with just 12 poll points separating them from Marquette in fourth place and North Carolina in fifth. Arizona has moved up to sixth, while Kansas has dropped to seventh. Duke, Tennessee, and Iowa State round out the top 10, with South Carolina making a strong case for a spot in the top 10 after jumping nine places.

Kentucky and Wisconsin have been moving in opposite directions after losing four and three consecutive home games respectively. Kentucky has fallen five spots following their losses while Wisconsin has dropped 12 positions after losing four in a row. Indiana State is among the new entrants into the poll at No. 24, marking their first ranking since their historic 1979 season. Saint Mary’s, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Colorado State have also regained positions in the rankings while Utah State, San Diego State, New Mexico, Florida Atlantic, and Texas Tech are among the recent dropouts.
