Overcoming Adversity: Macuga Secures Top-Ten Finish and Qualifies for World Cup Finals

Local alpine skier achieves first top-five result in World Cup race

Macuga, a speed skier, recently made history by scoring her first World Cup points in Switzerland in August and achieving her first top-ten finish in Austria in January. Despite facing cancellations due to snow at this weekend’s event, including both downhill training runs on February 29 and March 1, as well as the downhill race on March 2, Macuga remained determined. Fortunately, the International Ski Federation’s Super G race was able to proceed on March 2nd and 3rd. In the race on Saturday, Macuga secured a seventh-place finish, making her the top U.S. athlete in the race.

Macuga’s recent performance has solidified her chances of qualifying for her first World Cup Finals. Only the top 25 male and female athletes in each discipline have the opportunity to compete in this prestigious event. With this achievement, Macuga now holds 17th place overall for the season. This marks a significant milestone in her skiing career and she will be joining the world’s elite alpine skiers in Austria from March 16th to the 24th for the World Cup Finals.
