On a Saturday before Palm Sunday, an incident occurred that left a lasting impression on the author. The author parked their car near a low-rise building and returned to find a large modern building in its place. What made the situation even more surprising was a strange accident that a witness had reported seeing – a doe falling from the roof of a building in Zagreb City.
Unfortunately, the doe landed on the author’s vehicle, causing damage. The owner of the vehicle recounted her experience with the incident – how she found the animal’s blood on her car. Following the event, insurance covered the cost of the damages. However, things took an unexpected turn when the Commercial Court in Zagreb ruled that the City of Zagreb was at fault for not taking necessary measures to prevent such an accident from occurring.
The City of Zagreb responded by calling the occurrence an unforeseeable event, or force majeure. They denied responsibility for the damages caused by the doe. However, Judge explained that this was not entirely accurate as it would have been impossible to foresee or avoid such an incident happening due to it being considered force majeure.
The incident left quite an impact on those involved and highlighted how unpredictable life can be sometimes. While accidents like these are unfortunate, they remind us to always be prepared and aware of our surroundings.
