Nash appointed as Canada’s General Manager for the 2024 World Championship

Rick Nash has been appointed as the general manager of Canada’s men’s team for the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which will take place in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia from May 10-26. Nash, a 39-year-old native of Brampton, Ontario, has been working with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the past few years, initially as an assistant to the GM and currently as the director of player development.

Canada’s management lead for the men’s team, Doug Armstrong, expressed his confidence in Nash’s ability to lead the team, citing his international and NHL experience from both his playing career and executive roles. Nash previously served as Canada’s assistant GM when they finished second at the 2022 World Championship and has a strong background in hockey.

Having been the first overall pick in the 2002 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nash had an impressive playing career with over 800 points in more than 1,000 games. He has also represented Canada at multiple international events including the Olympics and the World Championship, winning gold on several occasions.

Canada will kick off this year’s World Championship against Great Britain on May 11, with a roster led by Nash as the general manager. The team will face tough competition throughout the tournament, including matches against Denmark, Austria, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, and host Czechia. Pre-tournament games against Austria and Hungary will help Canada prepare for the challenge ahead as they aim to defend their gold medal from the previous championship.
