Mon Health System Commemorates National Donate Life Month | Newsroom

Mon Health System is partnering with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) to raise awareness about organ donation during Donate Life Month in April. The goal is to encourage individuals to register as organ donors and help save lives. Currently, there are over 100,000 people in the nation waiting for organ transplants, with 2,500 in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia alone. Tragically, 17 people die each day without receiving the transplant they need.

The President and CEO of Mon Health System, David Goldberg, emphasizes the importance of inspiring the community to become organ donors in order to enhance overall wellness. Hospitals within the Mon Health System will be hosting flag raising ceremonies throughout the month to celebrate Donate Life Month and honor the generous act of organ donation.

Regardless of age, race, or medical history, anyone can be a potential organ donor. It is important for individuals to discuss their wishes with family and friends and consider registering as an organ donor. One organ donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and improve the lives of over 100 others through tissue donation. To register as an organ donor, individuals can visit CORE.org/register.
