LSU Secures Fall World Series Title with Narrow 3-2 Victory over Gold and Purple

The Purple emerged victorious in the LSU Baseball Fall World Series, as they won Game 2 with a score of 3-2. Right-handers Christian Little and Aiden Moffett combined for 10 strikeouts in five innings, securing the win for the Purple. This win also secured the series for them, after they won Game 1 on Friday night with a score of 2-1.

The reigning National Champion, LSU, will open the 2024 season on Friday, February 16 against VMI in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. In Game 2, Little started on the mound for the Purple and allowed no earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts. Moffett worked the final two innings and gave up no runs on no hits with three strikeouts. The Purple took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning as rightfielder Jake Brown lined an RBI single and shortstop Michael Braswell III lifted a sacrifice fly. Although the Gold tied the contest in the top of second, the Purple reclaimed it in the bottom of second with a run-scoring single from centerfielder Mic Paul.

Justin Loer, a junior left-hander transfer from Xavier (Ohio), led the Gold’s pitching effort by recording seven strikeouts in 2.1 relief innings. Both teams put up a great fight, but ultimately it was down to which team could come out on top and secure victory in this highly anticipated series.
