Local Resident Discovers Deer Carcass in Yard Following Home Invasion

A 60-year-old man from Vukosavljevica near Virovitica, Ivan Šanteković, witnessed an unusual event when a deer wandered onto his family’s covered terrace and died there. The man was shocked to see the deer on his terrace and gently nudged it to find that it was already dead. After calling the police, it was determined that the deer, weighing around 180 kilograms, had likely been killed in a collision with a vehicle, as no wounds from a firearm or other weapon were found on its body.

The Virovitica-Podravska Police Department confirmed that the deer had come from the forest and entered Šanteković’s yard after the collision. The deer’s death was due to internal injuries that were not visible from the outside. The animal was six years old and could be classified in the silver category due to the size of its horns.

Željko Rešetar, a hunter from the Pheasant Hunting Association Špišić Bukovica, also visited the terrace and noted that it is common for a wounded animal to seek a safe place to hide. Rešetar added that this was an uncommon occurrence in the area of the Pheasant Hunting Association, and the incident highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters.
