Kerr, Ingebrigtsen, and Nuguse set to compete in Bowerman Mile showdown

Josh Kerr, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, and Yared Nuguse are set to face off in the Bowerman Mile at the Prefontaine Classic, the fifth Wanda Diamond League meeting of the season, which will take place in Eugene on May 25th. Kerr, representing Britain, narrowly beat Ingebrigtsen from Norway at the World Athletics Championships with a time of 3:29.38 to win his first global title. Kerr later won the world indoor 3000m championship in Glasgow with a time of 7:42.98, edging out Nuguse from the USA who finished in second place with a time of 7:43.59.

Kerr announced on Instagram that he will be kicking off his outdoor mile season at the Prefontaine Classic, eager to return to the event where he excels. The last time Kerr, Ingebrigtsen, and Nuguse competed against each other was at the World Championships in Budapest, where Nuguse finished fifth behind Kerr and Ingebrigtsen who claimed gold and silver, respectively. Ingebrigtsen and Nuguse finished first and second in the Bowerman Mile at last year’s Prefontaine Classic, with Ingebrigtsen setting a new European record with a time of 3:43.73 and Nuguse setting a North American record with a time of 3:43.97.

Ingebrigtsen will be returning to the Prefontaine Classic for the seventh time to defend his Bowerman Mile title, along with the Diamond League Final trophy that he won last year. This highly-anticipated clash between Kerr, Ingebrigtsen, and Nuguse promises to be an exciting race with top athletes vying for victory.
