Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, presented his defense before the Foreign Ministers of the Twenty-seven on Monday. During a videoconference with the Twenty-Seven, he emphasized the importance of diplomacy in addressing crises such as Gaza and Yemen. Borrell urged ministers to work towards implementing humanitarian pauses approved by the United Nations Security Council and to reflect on diplomatic efforts to address these crises from a humanitarian perspective.
Borrell also expressed his belief that the best security option for Israel is the creation of the State of Palestine. He drew this conclusion after multiple contacts in the region and believes that it is the best guarantee of security for Israel. To advance towards this political conclusion, Borrell commissioned the EU External Action Service to create a document with options for the future of Gaza. He hopes that this document will be on ministers’ tables in December and will serve as a basis for relaunching
