John Paxson Joins Board of Directors for Golden Minds: Helping College Athletes Navigate the Pressures of Mental Health and NIL Opportunities

John Paxson becomes a board member of Golden Minds, the mental health platform for Notre Dame’s NIL collective

John Paxson, a three-time NBA champion and former Notre Dame standout, has joined the board of directors for Golden Minds, a mental health platform that supports college athletes through name, image, and likeness opportunities. Founded in 2022 alongside Golden Touch, the platform aims to address the mental health challenges faced by student-athletes and provide them with NIL opportunities. Paxson, a 1983 Notre Dame graduate, emphasized the importance of supporting student-athletes who are navigating the pressures and complexities of being young people in today’s world. Drawing from personal experience with his mother’s struggle with depression, Paxson understands the far-reaching impact that mental health issues can have on individuals and those around them.

In addition to serving on the board, Paxson will also lead a fundraising effort for the collective. With 11 NBA seasons under his belt, Paxson played a key role in helping the Chicago Bulls secure NBA titles in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Through his involvement with Golden Minds and Golden Touch, Paxson aims to provide valuable support and resources to student-athletes, building on his own experiences both on and off the court. The announcement of Paxson’s appointment to the board was made by Golden Touch founder Karen Phelps, whose father, Digger Phelps, coached Paxson during his time at Notre Dame.

Paxson’s commitment to supporting student-athletes through their mental health struggles is especially important as many young people face increasing stressors in today’s fast-paced world. With Golden Minds by their side, these athletes will have access to NIL opportunities that can help them navigate these challenges and thrive both on and off the field.
