Huawei’s French Offices Raided: Amid Probe, Chinese Giant Maintains Market Share in Europe

France Raids Huawei, Suspecting Breaches of Integrity_REFERENCE?

The Chinese group Huawei’s French offices were searched in a judicial procedure due to suspicions of breaches of probity. This preliminary investigation was carried out by magistrates from the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF), but details on the findings remain unclear. Despite strong restrictions, Huawei maintains a 20% share of the French telecoms infrastructure market. The United States has accused Huawei of being able to spy for the benefit of the Chinese authorities, which Huawei has denied. However, the European Commission views Chinese telecom equipment suppliers as a security risk to the European Union and has called on member countries and telecom operators to exclude Huawei’s equipment from their mobile networks. Meanwhile, Huawei is currently building a factory in Alsace aimed at starting production of equipment for mobile telecom networks, particularly 5G, by the end of 2025.
