Highlighting McNeese’s resources for small businesses

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at McNeese State University is a valuable resource for individuals looking to start a new business or grow their current one. Business consultant Dean Day shared that the Center offers no-cost confidential business consulting and affordable workshops to new entrepreneurs and existing business owners in the Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis areas for over 20 years.

The SBDC at McNeese serves as a one-stop center for assistance in various aspects of business development, including business plan development, market analysis, sources of capital, technology transfer, inventor assistance, and other business-related issues. One key area of support is helping business owners navigate recent changes such as the new federal reporting requirements for LLC owners called Beneficial Ownership Interest reporting, which went into effect at the beginning of 2024 and must be filed through FinCEN.

Additionally, the SBDC helps small business owners stay informed about funding opportunities for business operations and growth. Economist Dr. Loren Scott predicts that the Lake Charles area will experience significant growth over the next two years, creating opportunities for existing businesses to thrive and prospective business owners to establish their companies.
