Health Update on Norwegian Monarch King Harald Provided by His Doctor, March 2024

King Harald’s health is steadily improving following his recent hospitalization in Malaysia for an infection at the end of last month. As the oldest monarch in Europe at 87 years old, he has faced several health challenges in recent years. Today, he underwent a successful procedure to implant a permanent pacemaker at the hospital Rikshospitalet in Oslo. The Royal House of Norway stated, “His Majesty The King received this morning a permanent pacemaker. The procedure was successful, and His Majesty is doing well. His Majesty will remain in hospital for a few more days.”

King Harald’s doctor, Dr. Bjørn Bendz, provided updates on the monarch’s health after the surgery. Dr. Bendz shared that King Harald will stay in the hospital for a few more days and remain on sick leave until after Easter. He also mentioned that the infection had affected the King’s heart, making the situation serious due to his age. However, the pacemaker surgery was successful, and the King is on the path to recovery.

The Norwegian Royal Family has been transparent in updating the public on King Harald’s health since his hospitalization, a contrast to the limited information shared by Buckingham Palace regarding King Charles’s cancer diagnosis and Kate Middleton’s surgery. King Harald and Queen Sonja expressed their gratitude for the support and care shown by the Norwegian people during this challenging time. The warmth and commitment from the public have helped to strengthen and uplift the Royal Family.
