The Maui News reported that the open enrollment period for individual health insurance coverage on healthcare.gov has started and will continue until January 15. Consumers who currently have health coverage through the marketplace can renew their plans during this time. In 2024, enhanced subsidies to reduce premiums are available for eligible new and returning consumers, thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
According to Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito, consumers are encouraged to compare plans and see if they qualify for these subsidies. He emphasized the importance of understanding what your policy covers and identifying your current health care needs, such as services, providers, and medications.
Consumers have until December 15 to enroll in a plan that starts on January 1st. For more information on health insurance, residents can visit cca.hawaii.gov/ins/consumers/health.
