Germany regained their advantage before halftime with another free kick, this time by Max Moerstedt. As the second half began, Germany threatened to extend their lead, but the United States managed to level the scores again with a free kick from David Vazquez in the 80th minute.
However, it was substitute Bilal Yalcinkaya who scored a late winner for Germany in the 87th minute, securing their victory and sending them on to face Spain in the quarterfinals on Nov. 24. The result was disappointing for the United States, who were eliminated from the tournament after such a close match.
