Gaza health ministry reports at least 20 killed and dozens injured in shelling during food aid distribution

At least 20 individuals were killed and 155 were wounded on Thursday during shelling in Gaza while they waited for food aid, as reported by the health ministry in the Palestinian territory. The death toll is expected to increase as more casualties are being transferred to the hospital, according to a doctor at Al Shifa Hospital.

There were reports of dozens of deaths on the scene with videos showing numerous bodies. The health ministry blamed the incident on Israeli occupation forces targeting citizens who were waiting for humanitarian aid at the Kuwaiti roundabout in Gaza.

Eyewitnesses mentioned that the area was hit by tank or artillery fire. The Gaza Civil Defense Spokesman accused Israel of being responsible for the attack. The health ministry expressed that weak medical and human capabilities are hindering the ability to handle the volume and type of injuries from the attack.

CNN has contacted the Israel Defense Forces for a response to the incident. This is an ongoing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
