First Health Fair Organized by Youth Alliance

First Health Fair Organized by Youth Alliance

The Youth Alliance recently hosted its first-ever Feria de Salud (Health Fair) at Hollister High School in the cafeteria on March 16. The event brought together approximately 15 organizations with a focus on raising awareness of mental health among Spanish-speaking adults in the community. The participating organizations were asked to provide activities related to mental health and self-care. These activities included lessons on breathing techniques and creating projects with Mason Jars.

Linda Sanchez, an intern at Youth Alliance, organized the fair as her capstone project for her undergraduate degree in collaborative health and human services at CSU Monterey Bay. All participants at the fair were entered into a raffle as a token of appreciation for their support and involvement in the event.

During the fair, 65 attendees had the opportunity to learn about various services and organizations in the community, while also receiving oranges, granola bars, and water. Some of the participating organizations at the fair were First 5, YMCA, Salvation Army, and Community Food Bank of San Benito, among others.

Overall, the Feria de Salud was a great success in bringing together various community organizations to promote mental health awareness and self-care among Spanish-speaking adults in Hollister. The event also served as an opportunity for networking and community building among residents and organizations.
