Finnish Electric Fuel Undergoes First Test in Tractor Applications

Nokia is set to conduct a test drive with a tractor powered by an electric engine, which will be refueled with electric fuel made from green hydrogen and carbon dioxide. This marks the first time that electric fuel will be tested in vehicle use, according to technology research center VTT. The fuel is produced using carbon dioxide and water with the help of electrical energy, with hydrogen being an important intermediate product.

VTT has developed the production of electric fuel for commercial applications and industrial scale, and the responsible leader of the project, research professor Juha Lehtonen, says that the fuel can replace fossil diesel fuel in areas that are difficult to electrify, such as heavy road traffic and shipping. The test will take place at Agco Power’s factory in Nokia, where a tractor equipped with a diesel engine will be refueled with electric fuel. During the test drive, which lasts several hours, the fuel consumption and emissions in the exhaust gases will be measured.

The project received EUR 3.3 million in funding from Business Finland, with additional investments from companies increasing the funding to more than EUR six million. If you are looking for a new home in Cornville AZ or any other location around Yavapai County this may be just what you need!
