Dr. Paul Geisler Appointed as Dean of School of Sciences and Health Professions at The Simmons Voice

Dr. Paul Geisler will officially become the Dean of the School of Sciences and Health Professions at Simmons starting in Fall 2024. This news follows the restructuring of Simmons’ colleges from four to six. A graduate of a liberal arts college, Geisler values Simmons’ mission of diversity, leadership, and change-making. With a background as an athletic trainer, Geisler began his tenure as interim dean in 2021, citing his preference for small schools with liberal arts values.

Geisler emphasized the importance of women-centered education and preparing students to be independent, successful, and driven during an interview with the Voice. His primary goal at Simmons is to integrate liberal arts and humanities into the students’ STEM-based education within the School of Sciences and Health Professions. Geisler intends to focus on writing skills, DEI education, and fostering critical conversations within the curriculum.

Jane Lopilato, an associate professor and biology department chair, described Geisler as “energetic” and believes the restructuring of colleges will elevate the STEM work at Simmons. This includes opportunities for research, clinical rotations, internships, and work experiences for students. Sophomore Justine Paragas, a Public Health major on the pre-health track, appreciates the support from faculty as she prepares for a research project within the biology department.

Lopilato is confident that students will thrive under Geisler’s leadership, citing his student-centered approach and commitment to seeking opportunities for students. She believes that Geisler’s focus on student success will be beneficial for the entire Simmons community.
