DARPA’s Pursuit of Transformational Change: A Fireside Chat at The Ion

DARPA and Rice to Host Discussion on Future Investments in National Security Technology: A Breakthrough Event on March 12 | Rice News | News and Media Relations

On March 12th, leaders from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Rice University will be hosting a presentation and fireside chat at The Ion to discuss DARPA’s role in national security, program areas, and investments in breakthrough technologies. This event will provide valuable insights into DARPA’s approach to investments that drive transformational change and highlight the important role that universities play in building robust innovation ecosystems.

As the research and development agency for the U.S. Department of Defense, DARPA is known for reaching for transformational change rather than incremental advances. Their mission statement emphasizes this commitment, and DARPA has played a key role in developing technologies that have had a significant impact on society, such as the internet, miniaturized GPS, smartphones, mRNA vaccines, stealth technology, commercial space access, and autonomous vehicles.

The fireside chat will feature Stefanie Tompkins, Director of DARPA, Sha-chelle Devlin Manning, Chief of Commercial Strategy at DARPA, Rice President Reginald DesRoches, and Rice Chief Innovation Officer Paul Cherukuri as the moderator. Media interested in attending the event should RSVP with Avery Franklin, media relations specialist at Rice University
