Cubs Make Key Changes to Front Office Staff

The Cubs have recently announced changes to their front office, with Jared Banner being promoted to the role of assistant general manager. Sources have confirmed that Banner will now be working under GM Carter Hawkins and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. Banner previously held the position of vice president of player development for the last two years, and before that, served as vice president of special projects during the 2021 season.

In addition to Banner’s new role, the Cubs are also in the process of finding a new farm director to fill the vacancy left by Banner’s promotion. This change comes after Craig Breslow left the Cubs to lead the Red Sox baseball operations. Breslow had been the assistant GM and VP of pitching with the Cubs in recent years.

Under Banner’s leadership, the Cubs have built a highly-regarded farm system, earning praise from outlets like FanGraphs, MLB Pipeline, and Bleacher Report. FanGraphs ranked the Cubs as the top farm system, while MLB Pipeline and Bleacher Report placed them at 4th and 2nd in the league, respectively. This reorganization of the front office reflects the Cubs’ dedication to maintaining a strong player development infrastructure for the future.
