China Dominates Night 1 with Two Medals

The 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha kicked off with China leading the medal table. On Day 1, the Chinese women’s team won silver in the women’s 400 freestyle, while the men’s 4×100 free relay team captured gold, with Pan Zhanle setting a new World Record. South Korea, the Netherlands, and New Zealand each have one gold medal.

The Netherlands upset the Australians by winning the women’s 4×100 free relay, while New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather won the women’s 400 freestyle in a new national record. Australia and Germany are the only other countries with two medals each, with both countries winning silver and bronze in various events.
