The Friends of Brookline Public Health are thrilled to announce the recipients of two prestigious awards – the Alan Balsam Public Health Leadership Award and the Herb Carlin Community Health Award, which will be presented at an upcoming meeting on Nov. 29.
The Alan Balsam Public Health Leadership Award will be given to Lawrence “Larry” Madoff, MD, Medical Director, Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the staff of the Brookline Department of Public Health for their exceptional service during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in the field of Public Health, both locally and nationally.
On the other hand, The Herb Carlin Community Health Award will be presented to Brookline Thrives, a community organization addressing food insecurity, and Bonnie Bastien, who launched Mutual Aid Brookline during the pandemic. This award honors organizations or individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the public health of Brookline.
The awards will be presented to the deserving recipients during the Friends of Brookline Public Health’s event “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Public Health: Opportunities and Challenges for Brookline” on Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Brookline High School, 115 Greenough St. The event will feature a panel presentation and dynamic discussion with local experts in the field about the intersection of AI, Public Health, and Brookline.
