Winners and losers of the NASCAR weekend at Martinsville Speedway

This weekend’s racing at Martinsville Speedway produced several winners and losers. One of the clear winners was Hendrick Motorsports, who became the first Cup team to sweep the top three spots in a race at Martinsville. William Byron took the victory, followed by Kyle Larson in second and Chase Elliott in third. Overall, the team has won four out of the first eight races of the season, establishing themselves as a dominant force in NASCAR.

William Byron was another standout winner, collecting his ninth victory in the last 44 races. With a winning percentage of 20.5%, Byron has secured 11 wins since the debut of the Next Gen car in 2022, the most wins of any driver. His victory at Martinsville added to his impressive resume of wins on superspeedways, road courses, and short tracks. The upcoming race at Texas Motor Speedway will be another opportunity for Byron to continue his winning streak.

Bubba Wallace also found success at Martinsville with a fourth-place finish, his best result in 13 career Cup starts at the track. He accumulated 18 stage points, a significant improvement over his performance in the first seven races of the season. Another notable winner was Ryan Preece, who secured his first top 10 finish of the year with a ninth-place result. Additionally, Carson Kvapil made a strong debut in the Xfinity Series at Martinsville, finishing fourth for JR Motorsports.

On the other hand, there were a few losers from the weekend’s racing. Harrison Burton’s 33rd place finish marked his fourth consecutive result of 30th or worse. Austin Dillon, in his first race back with Justin Alexander as crew chief, finished 34th and has not placed better than 16th this season. Corey LaJoie, after a career-best fourth-place finish in the Daytona 500, has struggled with finishes of 30th or worse four times this season, including a 32nd place result at Martinsville. These drivers will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming races.
