Elon Musk Surpasses Mark Zuckerberg on Bloomberg Billionaires List

Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk are currently competing for a top spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As of now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has surpassed Tesla CEO Elon Musk to become the third richest person in the world. This is the first time since 2020 that Zuckerberg has made it into the top three of the Index with a reported net worth of $187 billion, while Musk has fallen to fourth place with a fortune of $181 billion.

Musk’s wealth has decreased due to Tesla shares slumping over 34% since the beginning of the year. Tesla sold only 386,800 cars in the first quarter of 2024, leading to the company’s first year-over-year sales drop in almost four years. Consequently, Tesla’s shares fell over 7% following this news, contributing to Musk’s decline in the rankings.

With an additional $30 billion to his name, Zuckerberg is quickly approaching Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ level of wealth with a net worth of $207 billion, placing Bezos in second place on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The top spot is currently held by LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault with a net worth of $223 billion.

The rivalry between Zuckerberg and Musk spans beyond their net worth. Their feud dates back to 2016 when a SpaceX explosion destroyed a Facebook satellite. Sparks continued to fly between them when Musk challenged Zuckerberg to a cage fight last year, and Meta’s launch of Threads, a competing social media platform to X, further fueled the tension between the two tech executives.
