The Simple Steps to Claiming the $500 Walmart May Owe You

Walmart has been accused of overcharging customers for weighted goods and bagged citrus, but the company denies these allegations. However, they have reached a $45 million settlement to resolve the issue. This settlement means that eligible customers who have proof of being overcharged can receive up to $500.

If you have shopped at Walmart in the US or Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, and have purchased certain items like packaged meat or bagged citrus, you may be entitled to compensation. The deadline to submit a claim is June 5, either online or by mail. With proof of purchase, claimants can receive 2% of the total cost of eligible items, up to $500.

For those who have lost their receipts or do not have proof of purchase, there is still a way to claim compensation. Claimants without proof can receive varying amounts based on the weight of the eligible goods purchased. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for June 12.

If you are unsure whether items you purchased fall under the categories described in the settlement, a full list of eligible goods is available. However, do not expect to receive any compensation before the final approval hearing in June.
