Georgia equestrian team places third in SEC Championship

The University of Georgia equestrian team secured a third-place finish at the SEC championship after defeating South Carolina 12-7 in a consolation match on Saturday. Unfortunately, the team fell short to Auburn in the semi-finals the day before. Senior Nora Andrews was awarded a spot on the All-Championship team in Flat after winning both of her rides during the championship. She received a score of 87 against her Auburn counterpart on Friday and a score of 89.33 against her South Carolina opponent on Saturday.

During the consolation match against South Carolina, two Bulldogs were recognized as Most Outstanding Performers. Junior Catalina Peralta received the honor in Fences with a score of 87.67, while sophomore Raegan Shepherd was recognized in Reining with a score of 72. Head coach Meghan Boenig reflected on the team’s performance, acknowledging that there is work to be done in order to achieve the desired outcome in future competitions.

In the Flat competition, points were evenly split between Georgia and South Carolina, with both teams securing two points each. Andrews and Peralta were the key contributors to Georgia’s success in this category. In the Western competition, Georgia outscored South Carolina 3-2, with Junior Jax Bound, sophomore Shelby Lynch, and Shepherd all contributing points to the team’s score.

The Bulldogs dominated in Fences, with all riders scoring 83 and above to secure all five points in this category. In the Horsemanship event, Georgia’s Leah Anderson and Jillian Stopperich each earned points to contribute to the team’s final score of the day. The No. 4 Bulldogs will be competing in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship in Ocala, Florida from April 18-20.
