Free health screenings and classes offered in Detroit for Public Health Week

Detroit is holding Public Health Week, offering free health screenings to residents all week. The Detroit Health Department is teaming up with Detroit Police Department precincts, recreation centers, and community members to host a variety of screenings and classes. Last year, a similar event was held with screenings and vaccines. This year’s event includes blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and kidney function checks, HIV and syphilis testing, fitness classes, CPR and Narcan training, mental health makeovers, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called Cuts and Conversations.

Screenings and events will take place at various locations throughout the week. On Wednesday, senior health and wellness screenings will be at St. Pat’s Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday will feature health and wellness screenings at Patton Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by an iDecide Teen Open House at Detroit Health Department from 5-7:30 p.m. On Friday, the Justice Walk will take place at 2875 W. Grand Blvd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturday, Cuts and Conversations will be at Heilmann Recreation Center and Ford Resource from noon to 2 p.m., as well as Mental Health Makeover and Massages at the same location. Dads and Sons Basketball Challenge will also take place from 2:30-5 p.m.
