NBA fines Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama $25K for throwing ball into stands during game against Knicks

Victor Wembanyama, a rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, recently received his first fine from the NBA. The league announced on Sunday that he was fined $25,000 for throwing the basketball into the stands during a game against the New York Knicks.

The incident occurred during a close game between the Spurs and the Knicks, which San Antonio won 130-126 in overtime. Wembanyama, who had an impressive performance with 40 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists, hugged the ball tightly with both arms as the clock ran out. He then threw the ball into the stands, presumably to give it to the home crowd.

This act came after the Knicks’ Jalen Brunson scored an incredible 61 points in the game. Despite his efforts, the Knicks were unable to secure a win, falling short by just four points to the Spurs. The victory was San Antonio’s third in their last five games, providing a glimmer of hope for the team with the third-worst record in the NBA.

Although the fine serves as a reminder to Wembanyama to be mindful of his actions on the court, his performance and the Spurs’ victory are still considered small triumphs in their season.
