Witnesses state that two thieves burglarize a business on Chicago’s West Side and make off with an ATM

Two thieves broke into a currency exchange and stole an ATM in the West Town neighborhood Friday morning at around 2:30 a.m. located in the 1500 block of West Division Street. Chicago police responded to a burglary call and discovered broken glass from the front door of the business.

According to a witness, the unknown offenders broke the glass, removed the ATM machine, carried it to a white van, and then fled the scene. This incident is part of a growing trend of ATM thefts in the area. In January, a currency exchange was burglarized for its ATM when thieves drove a Jeep Cherokee through the front window near Roosevelt and Jefferson Street. Another currency exchange on the city’s near West Side was also recently targeted with burglars breaking the front glass door of the business to take the machine containing an unspecified amount of money. The owner mentioned that this has happened multiple times before and it is unclear if the burglaries are connected.

No one is currently in custody for the West Town ATM burglary and Area 3 detectives continue to investigate the incident.
