Celebrating Women’s Contributions in Forensic Science: Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center

According to Dr. Steadman, the center has a total of 43 employees, with 34 of them being female. Sara Rogers, a Firearms Examiner at the center, expressed how gun enthusiasts are typically perceived as male, but she has taken on the role with expertise. As a Firearms Examiner, Rogers’s primary responsibility is to analyze ammunition components to determine if they were discharged by a specific firearm. Despite not being familiar with firearms growing up in a state with strict regulations, Rogers now carries out her duties efficiently, even if she does not have a personal passion for firearms. She acknowledges that working with firearms is her job and she executes it professionally.
